A booming city of 5.5 million, Ningbo grew around its harbour in the VIIth and XIIIth centuries
before declining after Shanghai became the main trading place in the area.
If you're looking for monuments and picturesque "hutongs", you'll be disappointed.
However, we found Ningbo to be quite representative of fast-developping modern China.
